Day 5 Success: A Tough Night Shoot and We Got it All

9:09 AM

We had a terrific shoot last night — Day 5 — a day in which we combined portions fo what had been two different nights on our original schedule, but had to be changed when rain on Monday and Tuesday compromised that schedule and left us about 3/4 of a day behind.  Now, thanks to a great night last night, we’re probably about 1/4 of a day behind and we’re catching up.  The weather seems to have stabilized — everything is good.

The most amazing part of the night was that we were able to steal huge production value for scenes in Count Basie Square of Port Lucaya — meaning we went in “guerrilla style” and just put up placards with the required legal language (something like: “You are about to enter an area where filming is taking place. Your image may used and you are not entitled to compensation.  If you do not agree with this, do not enter the area.”) and then we just went for it in the middle of more than 1,000 non-extras whom we just encouraged to not look into the camera.  When you see what we got — you’ll be AMAZED — it looks huge.

Then at the midpoint we stopped, packed everything up, and moved down to UNEXSO where we shot until 7AM, getting everything that was on the schedule.  This included night water work and we pulled it off.

I really think the crew deserves a huge kudo for pulling this off.  To get this day is a great achievement.  It’s time for a well deserved rest for everyone.   Me included.
