The Joy of Production

I know that I spend a lot of time talking about the pressures and tension that Susan and I feel. But there is the other side of it – the joy of intense shared effort.  With the arrival of our “cavalary” two nights ago, we had the beginning of that indefinable energy that makes production such a joy.  People are bound together by shared endeavor — and at our level, there is a certain kind of “appreciation for the absurd” that permeates the situation.  Imagine you’re a talented professional, working in what is supposed to be an elite industry…yet working on indie films hardly pays the bills — still you do it.  There is a comradery among those afflicted with the disease of independent film-making and when you’re all together on location somewhere there are some great moments when you feel it’s great to be part of a team that’s pulling together, trying to pull off what seems like an impossible task.  Anyway — tonight for a few hours it felt that way…..great feeling.
